Why a Girls Center?

 ALINAFE GIRLS RESCUE CENTER will provide a place of safety and development for girls and women in Malawi who have been rescued from underage and forced marriages and those who are at risk. 

In Malawi about 46 percent of girls are married before the age of 18, and 9 percent before the age of 15.

The practice of bride price, giving money or a gift to the bride’s family from the groom, is common in Malawi and is a major factor in forced marriages of young women in this extremely poor country.  

Poverty and societal illiteracy contribute to the belief that a girl child is not worthy of education and is lesser in value as compared to a male child.
